We are a small company dedicated to providing products that can make a difference to people with dementia. We don’t just sell products for people with dementia,
We design, create and use them.
Keeping Busy was started by Donna Ray in 2014 to provide the best possible care for people with Alzheimer's and other types of dementia. During her years of volunteering and working in the dementia care area of several facilities, Donna saw that things could be done better for the residents. She had read about the success in using Montessori methods in dementia care and it resonated with her. The Montessori principles put the patient first, encouraging their independence and recognizing their individuality.
Donna became a trainer for "DementiAbility Methods: The Montessori Way", providing workshops for facility staff across Atlantic Canada. As part of the program, staff are encouraged to make simple activities from familiar materials that can be used to engage the residents. What she found was that, even though they had the best intentions, the staff simply did not have the time. Without the activities, much of the workshop's purpose was lost. In order to ensure that the workshop's methods could be implemented, Donna designed several activities that were given to workshop participants.
These activities were so successful at engaging the residents that the facilities asked for more. With that encouragement, we now offer over 100 products, all designed specifically for people with dementia. Our products are in use in thousands of homes and care facilities, helping people with dementia live more meaningful lives.
