Dominoes are familiar - ideal for dementia activity

Dominoes are familiar to many people - the feel of the tiles, even the sound they make as they hit the table can bring back fond memories. This familiarity makes them an excellent choice for a dementia activity.

But Can be Overwhelming...
But they can be overwhelming to a person with dementia

Even with this familiarity, just putting a set of dominoes in front of a person with dementia, even a small set, can be frustrating. With all the tiles to choose from, it can be overwhelming for them to make a selection.

Match the Dots takes the frustration away

"Match the Dots" comes with the dominoes presorted into bags that allow the tiles to be presented in a logical manner, a few at a time. By following the steps in the instructions and using the included templates, the tiles and concepts are introduced in a way that matches the abilities of the person.

Introduce the Tiles...
Start by introducing the tiles

The tiles from the first three bags and their corresponding templates are used to introduce the tiles and the concept of matching them together by the number of dots.

Add More Complexity...
Then add complexity as the person becomes familiar

If the person is successful with the simpler templates, more tiles and the corresponding templates are used to increase the complexity of the activities.

Play Simple Games...
Finally, play simple games

As the person becomes familiar with the tiles, the instructions include several games that can be played with two to four players. Some are simpler using only a small number of tiles while others use the full set.

When Done, Put the Tiles Away....
Complete the activity by putting the tiles back in their bags

When done, ask the person to sort the tiles back into their bags by matching the picture on the bag label with the tiles. You will be amazed by the look of satisfaction from helping out by putting the game away on their own!
